Hi there. Are there any people out there who have progeny of Phantom Earl? I have 24 yr old Regent's Earl and I am keen to find his relatives. Lots ofpeople say the Phantome Earl's progeny have a "mean streak" and I would love to hear other people's experiences. My boy isn't mean but I don't mess with him...if you see what I mean!

I have known a few. One I personally saw trying to kill his rider. He bucked her off and tried to trample her. And he was never meanly treated, had been owned by the same lady for years. She still owns him I think because he's unsaleable. I've known one or two more and none were easy. But ask Hayls about her Giggs - he's a phantom earl and he's just gorgeous. So we can't generalise!

Hi there I have a Phantom Earl baby Giggling Ghost. He is an absolute angel. I sit on the floor with him and he nibbles my nose and plays with my ears. I play motorbikes on his ears and give him punk rocker hair styles. He is a very loving boy but it took a long time to break through his barriors. Because he is a hot feisty ride people drugged him and abused him quite badly and he had a really rough time. He doesnt have a mean bone in his body but he is very particular about who he likes and doesnt and can be difficult under saddle and has been known to buck off whoever he doesnt want riding him. But then he just goes for a joy ride afterwards. I trust him with my life. He would never hurt me. I would love to hear more about your horse

I had an Earl, Master Earl.Biggest sweetheart from the ground, wouldn't hurt a fly. Demon when it came to riding, had a mean bucking streak. His half-brother tried to kill his owner. Was my first horse, wouldn't change it for anything in the world.Loved him to bits. Was a stocky bay.
He got me of one day and ran into a bakkie,so had to be put to sleep.

PE babies do seem to have a penchant for bucking. Giggs is a master but mostly its just happy yeehaa kinda stuff and its never mean. He just gets so excited he doesnt know what to do with himself. He also does it when he knows people are watching and wants to show off lol. He loves the attention. But he knew I couldnt sit his big bucks so would do littlies with me and always looked after me. He understood and is a very wise gent. I am truly blessed with him. He is a horse in a billion gazillion. He is my soul horse. I am so sorry to hear you lost your horse so tragically miggie :-( I cant imagine how awful that must have been.

It is so intersting to hear from you all. When I set out to buy my first horse, I was clear that I did not want a TB and I did not want a grey. When the dealer led him out to show me, there was this big TB flea bitten grey and I just fell in love. Can't explain it at all. From many respects, he is quite the wrong horse for me but he is my first love and there is something special about him. I have all sorts of pet names for my other horses but Regent I just call "Sir". He's that kind of guy.

I am laughing reading your post fx5 because that was exactly my decision as well. No way in hell was I buying a TB because they were too nutty and voila off I went to try out horses and I sat on GG and there was just no going back for me. I fell in love in exactly the way you did. Come hell or high water I was going to own this angel TB or not

Oh and GG proved to be totally the wrong horse for me. Far too spirited and way out of my league talent and ability wise BUT he continued to try, looking after me with kid gloves and always giving me his all being my forever patient and willing teacher giving me what I was asking only when I did so correctly and in return I had a really good rider compete with him so he got what he needed and lover and I still got to enjoy the horse of my dreams. Riding him gave me wings and jumping him felt like the most awesome feeling on earth. He is just amazing. Even now at nearly 18 he still competes and loves every moment. They are incredibly special horses. Intelligent and complex and they need an understanding owner and rider. They are definately horses that come along only once in a lifetime if you are lucky. They have soul and you can see it in their eyes and feel it in their spirit.

"Complex" is exactly the right word to describe Regent. My other boy wears his heart on his sleeve but Regent thinks long and hard before he does anything. I am into Natural Horsemanship and regent can be very challenging because he is introverted and opinionated but, if I need emotional support it is Regent I turn to in my head. Weird fella. By the way he is NUTS about grapes. The only time he loses his dignity is when he sees somebody eating grapes. He also has the sharpest teeth I have ever seen on a horse.
