Hi guys! Do you know of any Equine Science course/s in South Africa? Preferably self study? Thanks so much!

It's not in SA but The open college of equine studies (UK) does certificates to degree courses in Equine science and it's all done by distance learning. I know there are a few people doing it in SA and I'm doing a diploma from Dubai. Some modules do require you to do the practical in UK but these are scheduled well in advance.

I have just finished my Diploma with The Open College of Equine Studies and i will NEVER go back to them. They were supposed to send us the last assignment in December of 2009 and we only received it last week - i could have my certificate by now if it were not for their sheer lack of admin and response. I am fed up. This course cost me 2000 POUNDS plus the cost of flying over there four times last year, yet when i email them i either get no reply whatsoever, or i get a ton of excuses... under staffed, we are busy, this happened, that is going on... etc freaking etc.
And now when i ask when i am going to get my Diploma on paper, i get told they are still busy with the last assignment from everyone and they don't know when it will be issued. But i have read elsewhere that it can take up to 3 months for the certificate to be issued which means in effect i cannot apply for a job until the end of this year - even then i doubt i will have my certificate by then.
Sorry for the rant, but i am done with this college and anyone who is thinking of studying there should be aware. When i first started with them everything was top notch and brilliant, but over the time i have studied with them i have seen (and so have all the girls doing the same course as me) a very definite decline in service delivery and a steep increase in excuses!
Regarding the quality of their education, it is very good and i am happy with the standard and level of instruction. A number of things could have been better though but nothing too serious.

Dodabby, didnt realize you had finished already!! I havent had any trouble with them but then I havent sent in an assignment this year yet. Last year I was getting back my assignments within a week.
Nins I'll let you know if I have the same sort of trouble in the future.

The problems started last year already though, i sent in an assignment in September - an important assignment too which counted towards the mark etc.... and yet still by December they had still not sent it off to the tutor for marking. I kept asking over and over again where my results were, but it never got sent to the tutor on time and they failed to inform me that they were sitting with it yet didnt send it off. Only when the assignment was returned to me - in January this year - did i see the tutors date that she received it.... not good enough. I dont care how busy they are, it is not good enough.

Ok i know i am ranting big time about this, but my reasons go further than just getting the certificate. They have effectively stuffed up my application to another university due to not having my certificate which i need in order to go further with my studies / and get a job, yet i can do none of the sort until things with this college are finalized.

Dodabby- So sorry to hear about your struggles! Thanks for your honesty! I really do hope you get your certificate asap!
I doubt I will be studying through them! It is just unacceptable the way they are treating you!

As i say Nins, the level of instruction and tuition is fine. I learned tons and the course was really comprehensive and some of it was on a veterinary level as well, but ja, maybe i will calm down once they get into gear and finalise this course.
