Have a look at Phillipi... a lot cheaper than Constantia/Tokia and more space. Vadelanshe Rietvlei - lot sof competitive riders, very good facilities and lots of space to ride. Huge grass paddocks, sinlge or in a herd. Spacious stables, good grooms and yard owner lives there so personall care with expecially feeding and she sees EVERYTHING. Let me know if you want more info....Philipi is actually a great spot and a lot of people there live in Constantia...only tkaes them aobut 15 minutes to get there....

i moved from philippi to zwaanwyk and am thoroughly happy even though we pay R1000 more for stabling. It also depends where you live and how far you want to travel, the one disadvantage I had about philippi was that it took me 25mins to get there

true celebie, I would much rather pay extra than travel all the way to philippi, plus seeing all those poor little hungry animals on the side of the road... I'd never get to ride if I has to drive out there everyday. It is alot of money, I know.... I can basicly ride anywhere in tokai without being worried about my saftey, I can pop down to SHORA whenever I please, go for a gallop on the sand track or do some hill work.... we have it all so close I can't speak for everyone but those of you who are in Tokai know how awesome it is.... Uitsig is R6200.00 but the avarage yard is like R3600 or so....

Dont know were you drive in Philippi but there are no hungry animals where I drive, when I go and ride my horse. I love the huge open spaces for my horse and paddocks where they can move around in and you get double the space for less money. My horse was always going unsound when I was at another yard with smaller padocks, nothing now and the vet put it down to being able to move around. Tokai is 17min from Philippi and what is 17min in my horses happiness.

holiday if you come through retreat and then grassy park there are loads of animals on the roads in shocking conditions - i regularly call the spca about them. there are also loads of dead bodies of dogs and cats along the road. i drive it regularly and it upsets me each time. i have rescued 2 dogs from this area already who were both on deaths door.

I know a large reason for the high Stabling costs in Constantia and Tokai is y because of the high rates the land owners have to pay. R6200 at Uitsig may seem like a fortune, but take into account the monthly rates they must have to pay for water etc.. on such a huge property in Prime Residential / Rural Area.

True Jules, but also take into account how much money Uitsig makes from their various restuarant, accommodation, venues for weddings and functions and of course the wine sales, I can't see why they think that R6200 a month is justified.

They don't need to justify it Bee. They still have horses there and are still making money off the stables, so whether we think it's too much or not is quite irrelevant

Holiday, I agree. I go there every day and in 2 years I've had to stop and help only one dog. I've seen more strays on the N2. The space they have are priceless.....anyway, each to their own. If you have more than R5000 to spend a month - lucky you.

You see stray animals walking the streets in Tokai/Retreat and in Noordhoek/Kommetjie so what difference does it make? Phillipi has open spaces and I feel that is far more important to the mental and physical well being of horses. I travel over 55km's to see my horses. I dont pay even close to what people pay in southern suburbs, but my horses have fantastic care and are happier than they have ever been. I have to make sacrifices but my horses are worth it. I would not pay those prices like R5000 or R6500 to have my horses in tiny sand paddocks and standing in stables for more than half the day

bee and julesh, Uitsig does not pay high rates, I dont know if you know that if you are registered as a farm and you are producing, your rates are very low. Makes you think.
ec and reality I can not agree with you more
