Hi all... Ive recently been employed at a farm (soon too be up coming livery yard) in someset west. So still very much trying to find my feet. I'm needing help with removing of the manure. How do I go about this? It it packed in bags but need it to be removed from the farm. Who do I contact? The farm is off the R44. Once the yard is up I'll need a truck to come on a regally basis to remove waste. Can anyone help me with contacts please? My email address is leanne.butcher@gmail.com

try contacting the local nurseries around you to take it - they can then sell it on as manure or use it in their gardens

Leah, you can try contacting Kirstenbosch gardens (or similar) I know they collect manure daily, but I have only ever seen them in Hout Bay, so no idea if they come to Somerset West area.

Why not find out what other livery yards close by do with theirs - in my area we mostly all use ours for our veggies and give it to the neighbours so it is a prized possession (we are such nice people to know!)!
Where exactly are you? I know some nurseries in the area may be interested but would need to work out who is closest to you.

Lee K/bosch won't come to somerset west. I can clear that one up for you. They take from some in Hout Bay and even that route is full up. They don't need more.
Find out from the municipality near you if they allow manure to be dumped with the garden refuse. They usually do as they make compost from it. They may allow you to dump, but usually it means you need to empty the bags and remove any plastic and twining which inevitably always gets into things.
I doubt it if the municipality collect though.

OK, the Annandale road is good - at the end near Spier you have the old Drie Geuwels Hotel, now called the Sustainability Development Company or similar - they want to teach the 'volk' to farm using natural methods, so contact them and ask if they are interested. If I can find their contact details I will post for you. Also contact Aspidistra Nurseries (on the corner of Spier road and Vlaeberg road) and there is another one - Bio something - will let you know and I will also ask around. Phone Inge at Spier and ask if they do anything special to get rid of theirs.......

Nursery there used to be called Biofleur and run by a Steven. Don't know if he is still operational though.
