sara and swiff went very nicely - there was some completely abysmal riding and certain horses and riders being morally and ethically wrong in what they did, but hey i suppose that is competitions for you. very few horses could maintain any semblence of a frame or rhythm, and 99% were cpmpletely above the bridle and hollow. Sara the showing people all really like your boy - think you will have a great future with him

Kels I agree with you and then they are upset with the marks they get. The were a couple of very, very nice horses there, that should be watched in the future and I agree swiff is one of them

Well - mine was probably one of those you think shouldn't have been there!
After wamring upi beautifully he went to Arena 1 and had a flippy out at the Ibis birds hiding in the ditch which he was certain were going to EAT HIM UP!!! Well, that was that and so our tests were definitely not his best work at all
Kels/Paint - I think that you should maybe be a little more encouraging cause for someone like me it was another outing and milage that we need to get better. I knew he was able, but the wheels fell off - and with horses that happens..............at least people try!
I took the positives out of the day, we had "fun" and will be there next time

no wright stuff you definitely are not one of the ones we are talkign about........if you saw what went on on saturday afternoon you would know what i am talkgn about. none of these warmed up nicely, we watched them warming up at flat out gallops in the warm up field......i know its all about the outing. BUT if you cannot get your horse's head down without sawing its head from left to right so that when it comes down the centre line the head is being jerked from left to right then you shouldnt not be there. At this level the horse and rider should go around the arena in a nice frame at a steady rhythm. the horse wont be on the bit the entire time but it must be moving into the riders SOFT and steady hands. Some of the kids int he afternoon didnt even rise and sit in the trot they were holdingonto the horses mouths to strongly they were standing in their stirrups the whole test!

WS I know things go wrong it has happened to all of us and you can see when horses get nervous or spook at something. I am talking about unschooled horses.

not just unschooled.....BADLY trained and equally badly ridden.......spooking and looking around and nerves are somethign else entirely

ok - .............I wasn't there on Saturday but seen similar behaviour at other shows! This behavious by riders should be commented on by the judge or officials...........
Most comments in my test were: horse tense - hehe........yes, he was..........the were teredactials (spelling??) in the ditch waiting at K and they'd pop there heads up and down waiting for the right attack moment - hehehehehe Silly thoroughbred!

wonder who their instructors are? I blame them, fairly and squarely.....

absolutely misty - but i think one of the problems are that not all instructors know how to bring on green horses. Dont worry WS he will relax the more shows he goes to and the more outings he goes to, that arena is very scary. i know that Paris was convinced there were huge monsters all around the arena and wouldnt go on the track at all there she worked about 3m into the arena just so the monsters couldnt grab her legs.

exactly Kels - instructors need to accept that they too may lack knowledge or have shortcommings and be big enough to pass these horses/ riders on to ones who have the knowledge / expertise.
I seriously question why some people are teaching the riders they do, because it is all going pear-shaped and most of the riders blame themselves or are too juvenile to understand - no wonder so many give up - don't blame the judges, blame the instructors!
Had a good laugh at our last show - one certain rider had a problem because near the one arena is a labourer's cottage and they had washing hanging out which of course, it being Firlands and all, was flapping in the breeze. Said rider was nearly crapping herself about this and what horsie was going to do. .......what did horsie do? Nothing. And she won that class!! She has asked if we can arrange to always have 'lucky' washing out for her in future!
