Basically because mine is fixed, not to the bottom if that makes sense. all my horses have travelled like this. I previously asked advice with regards to my one horse who was not happy when we travelled. Loads and unloads like a dream. we have made some adjustments to the box, lengthened the ramp considerably to try and take away the noise of the road and other cars, travels on the left rather than the right and yes, even travels with ear muffs. He is trucking nearly every weekend now and each trip he improves - YAY!!

I also don't own a horsebox, but the boxes I hire have partitions. Also, there's normally Daze with another horse, so the partitions are left in. If she ever travels alone, I'll probaly request that the partition be removed.

I don't have a box, but when someone trucks me there is usually a partition.

Oh ok well my big boy travels without partition otherwise he runs up the walls because he gets clostaphobic(sp?) and Luke hasn't done much boxing yet but my instructor said we should rather box him with no partition otherwise he will learn to balance on the partition.

Horses do generally truck better without the partition because they can spread their legs and find their balance a bit easier.

Ja and they travel better at angle too just strange how most people travel with partitions then.

would that be with or without another horse in the box? Just remember if you take the middle partition out you wont have the chain or the thing at the back to precent them from backing out, or rushing out when you have them in which makes it dangerous for the people opening and closing the back of the box. We rented a box the otherday and we had asked for the front peice to be taken out so that the could see each other, they took the whole thing out, so we improvised and put the chain at the back and they were ok but il never truck like that again, there is too much of a chance of them falling on each other and kicking etc.... there is also a greater chance of them standing on each other.....

all the boxes I have used have a partition, he tends to move around alot when he is on his own... so wouldn't take the chance he would probably try turn around or something

Umm well Mac I've boxed for years like 3 times a month on his own with no partition with No problems, he's also never turned around either. Also he doesn't rush out he waits till you ask him to back out.
Oh and I was refering to a horse on their own. If you teach your horse good manners in the begining I think it helps alot with rushing out etc. And yes I agree if you take the partition out you need a chain/gate in the back.

If its a horse on their own i dont see a problem in it, it may actually be safer as if they were to fall they wouldnt get stuck under the partition.... aswell as they do balance themselves instead of balancing on the partition. The rushing out, some horse will always do it no matter how much work you put into them, its usually from bad expiriances. Luckily smokey waits aswell but id rather have a bar there just incase any horse can be spooked which makes it dangerous for the people taking the ramp down. good luck with lukie, if he is on his own no partition is fine but with another horse i had a million hartattacks and would never let them travel like that again...
