A friend is looking for suggestions on yard in the kyalami area (or surrounds). She is quite happy to pay around 2k p/ month but wants a nice atmosphere at the yard with other riders around - usually rides alone at the moment and would love some company.
Must have a Dressage arena and allow outside tuition as well as individual turnout for horses or small groups. 24/7 supervision on site. Rider does compete and parking for a horsebox would be a bonus, must have access for hacking out.

I recall seeing an ad for stabling at Bayernhof. Very nice yard and you allowed outside tuition there. I know that a lot of the more commercial yards are more in the region of R2300 + in this area.

Thank you for the replies. We do have lists of all the yards in the area, was looking for some personal opinions. She is stabled in the area at the moment and quite happy to pay R2000+ for the right place (paying more than this at the moment), not over R2750.
She is happy at her yard but hardly sees another person other than the grooms. Would like to go for hacks in company and such. It is after all a fairly social sport.

Bayernhof is quite a sociable yard and it is a private yard too. It is very nice. Has dressage and jumping arena, xc jumps, fitness track next door and a short ride to ICB through Saddlebrook. I never stabled there, but know people who do and they are very happy. Otherwise there is Citadel which is two properties over. They charge R2400 and there are a lot of juniors there. While my horse was there, he was extremely well looked after, he unfortunately did not like the business of the yard.

Also stabled at Citadel. Good places to hack. Great facilities. Only thing is there was no shade is paddocks and its further out than Kyalami. What about Vee's place? Its very busy there and competitive. Horses in good condition. I looked but chose to move Muldersdrift way.

Bill Johnsons yard looks nice too. Only problem I have with those yards are the roads around there have become VERY busy.
The "Lights" were almost no longer yesterday when some idiot came screaming past them as they were coming out the gate. I only saw them because I make a point of looking for horses.

I have no idea what their livery fees are but what about Kinvara? It certainly looks lovely. Cellehof? Burlington?

I don't think Burlington allow for outside instructors - if you look at their site: www.burlington.co.za/facilities.htmlKinvara is lovely (http://www.kinvara.co.za)... one thing I do like about working at this company is I at least hear the horse neighing in the paddocks (they are outside the business park but behind our building)

Isnt Burlington closing down coz its been sold or am I out of the loop as usual? Kinvara is beautiful but its a bit more than what she is paying if I remember.

I think you may be thinking of Northlands Stables.

Not heard of Burlington closing. Heard Chinta was closing from one of their clients who moved two horses last year.

That's very strange, as they still have shows scheduled on the calendar well into 2008.

That's very strange, as they still have shows scheduled on the calendar well into 2008. That's what I thought too. Chinta was very convenient for them and he is now bitching they have to travel so far. Maybe there is more to that story than he is telling me.

Chinta will possibly be taken over by another manager. Don't want to talk out of turn though.
