I am urgently looking for recommendations for a stable yard in the Durbanville/Northern Suburb area. Can someone pls recommend a nice yard where they look well after a horse and where there's a good instructor?

Hi Plum Bucked Off is Awesome!! Truly Truly - i will never stable my horse anywhere else! Peta is a fantastic woman and only has the horses best interests at heart. Also depending on your level we have a wonderful instructor called Anita Freter - she is wonderful and confidence inspiring and can teach from basics thru to competive level. Also Paul Garlicki teaches on somedays there. www.buckedoff.co.za

Amazing yard is Nicola Hall aka jane on the site - her number 082 404 4036 - she is in Joostenbergvlakte - private yard. no instructor but TOP NOTCH care.
I stabled with her for a year and a half until my horse came home and should I ever need livery again I will go back there in a heartbeat!

Zelda Taylors old yard in the Richwood area, just at the back of Durbanville is apparantly lovely, I know a few people who stable there, its run by a lady called Melanie, very reasonably priced and good instructors, Lester Sander teaches there amongst others. I can find the number for you if you want. Genie Vd Merwe also has a lovely yard in Durbanville central, with fantastic top care and wonderful arenas but probably a bit more expensive, she has excellent instructors, Joanne Mitchell being one of them, then theres Alba who is also pretty expensive but the arenas are lovely.

Genie is also on the more pricey side, and she normally has a waiting list. But if you can get in and you can afford it, GO FOR IT! Honestly, IMO, one of the best yards in terms of care and instruction around.

I bought Daisy from Genie and stabled her there. Honestly, no other yard I've seen comes close to Genie's care. But, it is very pricey to stable there.
Nicola's yard in Joostenbergvlakte is in riding distance (like 10 minutes ride) to Joanne Mitchell's place and Joanne gives lessons from her place. She also has the most divine arena (sand and rubber chips) and she's an excellent instructor! I have lessons with her on Dix and I've never been taught the way he teaches, but it's brilliant.

Someone told me that I will not be able to move my horse from Gauteng to CT end of March as he will have to stand in quarentine for 4 weeks. Does anyone know if this is true?

Plum it depends on your finances, Alba is nice but pricey, they have no grazing in summer and their camps are not big but they have lovely schooling facilities and jumps, and I think the care is good, the outrides are nice but very hard in summer as in most parts of the durbanville vineyard areas. If you looking in that price range then I would rather try Genie vd Merwe 0833035317, brilliant well run little yard, really excelllent. Depending on where your horse comes from he may have to stand for 21 days in Beaufort West in quarantine but its only if the area that he is coming from has had recent outbreaks of AHS, best to contact state vet here in Boland, Dr Gary Berman, closer to the time, its a bad time of year for AHS outbreaks upcountry and quarantine bans can be instilled immediately if needs be but not to say that it will be so in March all depens when the last AHS outbreak was and where. If that is the case, there is a wonderful stud farm just outside Beaufort that will have your horse for quarantine, a way better option than leaving him/her at the showgrounds where the care is not fantastic.

Joanne's number: 0828471257
Best call on a monday morning. That's when she least-likely to be teaching and she won't answer if she's teaching.

She teaches in most places in Joostenbergvlakte (or you can just ride down to her arena).
