POSITION VACANT: Traineeship/Intern - USA
ABOUT COLLEEN KELLY:
Colleen Kelly is a world-leader in the horse rider's seat, posture & balance, lecturing for Equestrian Australia, USEF, Dressage Canada, the NZ Equestrian Federation and the world's largest events: Equitana, Equine Affaire and Horse World Expo.
2010 has seen her with the world's most prestigious honours: being invited to speak at the WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES, and her program being officially recognised by the USDF UNIVERSITIY PROGRAM.
Colleen is coming to the USA for a repeat second tour with Spanish Dressage Maestro Jose Mendez.
ABOUT JOSE MENDEZ:
Spanish-Trained Dressage Maestro Jose Mendez has thrilled audiences all over the world.
Snr. Mendez is a previously-qualified Coach Educator for Equestrian Australia (currently retired from list due to international committments), and has represented the country Internationally at Grand Prix, and performs all haute ecole movments, and is well known with his specialty piaffe.
He gives clinics all over the world, and his kindness to both horse and rider develops the most amazing softness, lightness and connection with the horses. He is often seen riding horses in clinics.
ABOUT THIS INTERNSHIP:
This internship, FOR THE PERIOD OF THIS TOUR ONLY (until approx November 1, 2010) is a remarkable once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with Colleen Kelly and Jose Mendez 'behind the scenes'.
You would need to be a good rider with a view to becoming an Official Coach with the International Society of Rider Biomechanics (although riding is not a requirement of this position).
Applicants would need to be highly experienced in either events management, arranging clinics, or marketing events or similar and be very well presented, highly punctual, and well spoken with an outgoing fun personality with a GREAT sense of humour to handle difficult and stressful situations if they arise (as some riders are very nervous on their first occasion).
DUTIES:
Duties will involve - prior to their arrival in the USA:
1.Answering emails from riders with enquiries for bookings
2.Slotting riders into appropriate time slots for their lessons
3.Sending invoices and accepting payments
4.Sending receipts and acknowledgements of times for lessons
5.Confirming and liaising with the separate venues, and making changes where required
6.All administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the clinics for international clinicans of this calibre
Duties will involve - during the clinics:
It is inderstood that touring to all venues might not be possible, but it is certainly encouraged as much as possible. Duties during the clinic will include:
1.Ensuring standard insurance waivers are signed and completed for all riders
2.Making sure payments have all been finalised prior to riding
3.Making sure riders are preparing for the next lesson on time
4.Liaising with riders (especially as some are very nervous), showing them around the venue and getting riders to the arena on time
5. Keeping both clinicians running to the strict time table of lessons
TRAVEL:
If it is possible for the candidate to travel to some, or all, of the venues, the remainder of the time is spent sitting with (or assisting if the candidate is already a coach) Colleen Kelly as she teaches all levels of riders in all horse sports. In addition, you would be encouraged to watch as many Jose Mendez lessons as possible to improve and encourage your knowledge.
You would also have to be very 'horsie' and 'go with the flow' in terms of little things like the odd 'messy horse job' such as picking up manure at the lesson if the rider doesn't have a groom with them (but that is rare).
Applicants would need their own reliable transport and cell phone.
REMUNERATION:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
REMUNERATION cash value $540 + $175 + $290 = US$1005
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As this is a trainee position, the spirit of the position is to train the candidate with a view to becoming an Official Coach with the International Society of Rider Biomechanics (more info can be found about coaching on http://www.isrbonline.org).
A cash salary will not be paid, however the value of doing the course, and all the course materials for the International Society of Rider Biomechanics Teacher Training Course is worth US$540.
In addition, all assessments and examination to become an Official Coach with the Society would be included in this package.
Spectating is obviously included - if the candidate were able to attend a week of clinics would normally be $175, however could be worth quite a good deal more if the candidate is able to travel for the entire tour.
In addition, two private lessons will be given by Colleen Kelly (Value $290). These may either be taken at the clinics themselves (only if a loan horse can can be arranged, or if the candidate can bring their own horse, however stabling and horse costs would be paid by the candidate). Alternatively, these lessons can be taken as a two separate "video lessons", where the candidate has their riding filmed on two separate occasions for a private, personal lesson to be reviewed and sent by Colleen Kelly.
During the tour, for whatever part the candidate is able to attend, shared accommodation will be arranged at one of the rider's or official's homes during the clinics. Some meals may be provided.
