Hi Guys After much drama and no sleep, my great dane gave birth to one puppy. yes thats right, just one.
he is a gorgeous little black boy. has white paws and large white patch on chest that runs all the way up to his chin.
His parents are highly pedigreed dogs, and are both from imported lines. they are the more chunky looking danes.
His Dad is Cherriton Sir Socrates (harlequin) (Mervyndane Ourland AJ of Cherriton X Sharmik Melanie of Cherriton (import))
Mom is Mervyndane Miss Makeeta (black) (BISS Helmlake Ryatlynn Rafferty of Mervyndane (import) X Mervyndane Zennequin)
Please contact me if you are interested in the pup, and i can send further info about him and his lineage. as well as pics.
P.O.A and to very special home only.

hi, i dont know how to post pics to this site so if the pic doesnt come up please send me your email and i will send you a pic. he is 1 and a half weeks old now.
Because he is only one pup i was considering not registering him, because of all the pt i have to go through to get it done. both his parents are registered so i can do it.
I was considering selling him for less if the buyer does not insist on papers. because i will need to spend about 6k on his parents tests etc.. and registration fees for kusa.
so unregistered Price R3500.00 Registered price: R6500.00 /Users/britt/Desktop/IMG00011-20100701-1741.jpg

to be honest, surely the tests should have been done before breeding? I know it doesn't cost much to register a puppy with KUSA, our litter of 9 only cost just over R1000. The tests, which are to ensure that the parents are genetically sound, should be done before breeding and not purely for registration purposes.

Wow, that's pricey for an unregistered pup... Best of luck finding him an awesome home though.

yes, the tests are supposed to be done beforehand, this was not a planned covering. my male broke through my back gate and covered my bitch once. we were going to terminate, but the fertility expert veterinarian said that it would be better for the bitch to have the one puppy as it will be less stressful on her body than terminating. both my dogs come from parents who have hip and elbow scores of 0.0 i am very pedantic about the breed and the betterment of it. the registering of the pup with kusa is not the issue. the cost of the hip and elbow, eye and heart tests are the expensive tests and are not even required for kusa registration. i choose to do them. And the reason that the pup is so pricey, is because of its lines, he comes from champion imported stock. his grandfather is import champion at the moment. I paid a hell of a lot more for his parents! anyway, that is neither here nor there i just want to find a good home for this little guy.

Thanks for the reply britt and well done on being responsible about this. Sorry for the less than friendly attitude, but I am sure as aomeone who is so like me (love that 'pedantic'!) I know you will understand why. I do hope you find your puppy a stunning home - good luck on that front, I certainly agree on the stunning lines.

Surely you as a responsible owner would do the hip, elbow, eye and heart tests anyway? Even if you where not planning to breed with them?
Personally i would advise you to register (KUSA registration is VERY little in the long run) and you can then place breed restrictions on your puppy, that way people cant use him to breed future registered litters from without your permission!

Simone I think as this pregnancy was accidental, it's quite possible that britt didn't have time to budget for costs such as these. I think it is quite rude of you to ASSUME that she is an irresponsible owner because of that.

Bluebird Sorry that's not what i meant i mean as a responsible dog owner she will at some stage in the dogs life do the necessary tests. Usually at about the age of 2yrs old.
I should hope that both these dogs are over 2 yrs old.
Britt good luck selling him as the market is very quiet at the moment for puppies

lol yes i am planning to do the hip, elbow, heart and eyes on both my dogs, for future breeding with them. i have already booked the tests for my male, my female is only 1and a half years, and they need to be two yrs of age to get it done, hence the unplanned pregnancy, hence the reason i wanted to terminate, because she is under 2yrs and should not be having pups yet. but the specialist and her breeder said i must let her have the pup because when we scanned her, we saw there was only one, and it would be less detrimental to her health to have one pup than to have the pregnancy terminated. (although i would be facing a lot of frowning on from other breeder's, which is clearly what is happening here now, but my future health of my bitch is more important to me than other peoples opinions, and dr Rachel Shuttleworth (canine fertility expert) advised me that this was the best course of action)
anyway, what's done is done. I will get the little guy registered. (shouldnt say little, he is huuuge!) anyway, whats done is done,

thanks for the mature response britt im glad you will register him as too many unregistered dogs end up in backyard breeders kennels and it is so sad. Good luck with your future breeding. BTW Rachel is AWESOME and im not judging you for not terminating!!! Im just trying to give the best advice i can ..... i guess im just too passionate about this and come accross as a bitch

lol no worries! i feel the same way! when i found out she was indeed preggers my heart stopped in my chest. these are my babies! they sleep in my bed when they grow tired of their double bed futon on the floor. if the situations were reversed i would have the same response! and there is no waaay he would end up in some backyard breeder situation. i plan on interviewing the lucky fish who gets to buy him, and grilling them to death. if i dont find the right owner for him, he will stay with me and i will neuter him. money has not nor ever will be the issue here. one of the main reasons for the high prices is not only the breeding, but it puts off ppl who are not really really passionate about the breed.

Thanks Britt - I appreciate your further emails and explanations.
BTW, my comment at the cost was really around the cost of the pup as an unregistered pup, as I would pay your registered asking price if the pup was registered and I was looking for a Dane.
Good luck though finding him a great home. Danes are stunning breed - very special dogs!
