Is there a market in the Stellenbosch and surrounding areas for horse box hire and trucking?
I am toying with the idea of opening a little horse box hire and trucking company, and it would be great if I could get some input.
What is the going rate at the moment for horse box hire? And what are they charging for trucking?
If anyone thinks I would be wasting my time and money please let me know.

You'll have to be specific as to what you see as surrounds.
When you say trucking, you mean only horses? I'm looking for a local operator that might be able to do local furniture work for me.

By surrounding areas I mean Somerset West, Strand, Gordons Bay or I`ll even the other way, areas like Durbanville, Joostenberg Vlakte and Bellville.
And by trucking I mean only horse transport yes. To and from shows or just general transport.
What do you think?

There is a chap in that area who does it and hires out his box he isnt that busy, he charges approx R7 per km.

Don't think it's wise.
First off like lewis said - there is someone already and he isn't busy.
Second, remember you would have to deal with the crappy type of horsie as well. Are you able to deal with the even worse owners?
Then the possible damage to your trailer?

Do you have a trailer (horse box) or float type thing? What I'm trying to get at is, how many horses can you transport at one time?? I know we would definately be interested in a float type thing (Maties Equestrian Club), as we have at least 6 going at one time to a show! A float would be far more economical!
