3 Day Course in Classical Dressage Riding: The Way To Lightness & Suppleness
Exciting news!! Here is the info for the first clinic with Veronika Bühn. Although it is to be held in W Cape, her next visit will be to Natal and Gauteng and we will arrange dates during her visit here or maybe even before hand. Please let me know if you would be keen to participate. I have venues for Natal but not for Gauteng - so please let me know of any that would fit our requirements. All clinics will run in the format outlined below and so we will only need to amend this ad for each location and its venue. I also need offers of accommodation for Vroni so that we do not need to incur this as extra cost during her visit. This is all very exciting and when she confirmed the approval of this ad by Monsieur Karl, she confirmed that he again expressed great interest in running a teacher's course here.
For those that have expressed interest, we hope that you will participate in Veronika's courses. May I also remind you that I will be leaving for Germany with the applications on December 1st, so please get your applications to me as soon as have them ready. For those who have kindly offered your venues, please confirm if you are happy to host Veronika and assisting me to help us bring this wonderful opportunity to RSA.
I look forward to hearing from you shortly!

About Veronika Bühn
Veronika Bühn, 33, started riding when she was 7 years old. She gathered a varied experience, riding horses of different breeds in Dressage, Jumping and Western Riding. The principles of natural horsemanship have influenced her work with horses for a long time. On her consistent quest to improve her knowledge of horses and riding she met Philippe Karl in 2005 and was deeply impressed by his work. Since 2007 she has been participating as an active rider in the "teacher's class" of the "École de Légèreté". Veronika and her husband run a stable in Germany, educating and schooling horses and riders in the Munich area. Her website (in German) can be viewed on www.prohorse.org.
About the Clinic: November 12th - 15th
Veronika will offer a 3 day clinic for 10 riding participants and unlimited numbers of "Listeners" (spectators). We want to encourage as many listeners as possible as they will learn a great deal also. The clinic will be comprised of one on one lessons during the day and theory lessons in the evening and listeners will also be able to participate in these theory sessions. The cost of the clinic is very, very reasonable and listeners will get a huge amount out of attending - so do bring along a notebook and pen! Riding participants should also come prepared to make good notes. All riders will be permitted to video their own lesson and a schedule for filming will be set up. Please let me know when booking if you will be bringing a video camera for this purpose so that I can work out the schedule. Video taping other student's lessons will not be possible and listeners will also not be able to use video. Thank you for respecting this request.
The clinic will run from the evening of November 12th until 16.30 on November 15th. There will be a short concluding talk at the end of the clinic.
Please make sure you arrive in good time and have your horses settled in - details about stabling/overnight accommodation for your horses is included below along with details on accommodation for students and listeners.
November 12th Arrive and settle in - first theory lecture starts 17.00 to 19.00 with Q&A until approx 20.00 (this first night will be a bit longer and everyone will get to meet)
November 13th - 15th Lessons 08.00 to 17.30 and run every 45 minutes:
November 13th - Day 1 Day one is assessment/getting a general picture and finding solutions
November 14/15 - Day 2&3 Day two and three are for working on these points.
November 13/14 Theory lessons will also be held on these two evenings but will run 18.00 until 19.30
Once participants have booked you will be allocated time slots (outlined below). Students must be ready for their lesson and have their horse warmed up and ready in the 15 minutes before the start of their lesson. There must be no unscheduled break in the proceedings as the day is long and there is much to get through. If you are not ready, you will not be able to make up the time elsewhere.
In order to keep costs down, please make sure you bring packed lunches with you and any additional refreshments that you require as the days are long. We plan to have tea and coffee available along with an honesty box for everyone to contribute toward covering the cost of this but otherwise, no other food will be provided.
Theory Lessons: Classical dressage riding - the way to lightness and suppleness
These will be held at the arena in the gallery. Please make sure you have note books and pens with you. The first night will be a bit longer, 17.00 until 19.00 and allowing until 20.00 to cover questions and answers. Everyone will be new to this and meeting each other for the first time and so time will be allowed for this and additional questions. The second two evenings the theory will run from 18.00 until 19.30.
1. What is "classical" in educating horses by dressage riding - a definition.
2. The mouth as the key to the horse.
3. The use of the Hands considering the different types of horses.
4. The principals of schooling a horse - the way to balance, relaxation and lightness.
Clinic Costs & Format:
Riding participants R1200 per person
Listener Fees R 450 per person
Arena Hire (see note below) R 140 per rider
Airfare (see note below) R 350 per rider
Horse accommodation/turn out Free of charge - but you must bring your own hay and hard feed (see note below)
Please Note: Should enough funds be raised from this event, riders will be reimbursed both the arena fee and some or all of the airfare cost. Invoices will include the arena hire charge but not the airfare cost - please keep this as a "cash" reserve to be paid at the clinic if required. We hope that it will not be necessary and should be able to inform you in advance of the clinic. The total invoice for riders would therefore be R1340 and deposits of 50% are required in order to hold your place. Please note that as with all clinics that we organise with overseas instructors - deposits are non-refundable unless the clinician or organiser cancels. You are therefore advised to make sure you cover your own insurance against unforeseen circumstances that might prevent you taking part. Neither the organiser or teacher will be responsible for any inability to attend. Please also note that you should cover your own personal insurance and confirm in writing that you are taking responsibility for that.

You will all be given allocated times and these will also be displayed at the venue.
Accommodation for horses
Caron is very, very kindly allowing riders to bring their horses "free of charge" - this is a very kind and generous offer! There are some turn out paddocks available if you do not require a stable and these are secure as they are used as stallion paddocks. There are some stables also available and again there is no charge but you should take responsibility for them - cleaning out, watering your horse and so on. If you require any groom assistance or want someone to do this work for you - then there will be a charge made which will be privately paid to the groom assisting you. Caron will be able to advise what this will be. The horse accommodation is free based on everyone bringing their own feed and hay!! Please make sure you bring enough and also bring additional/spare water buckets.
Please note: It is possible to keep costs to a minimum purely due to the kindness of Caron's offer. Please treat the facilities with respect and clean up after yourselves and your horses. If this goes well we hope to have regular visits from Veronika and it would be nice to be welcomed back by Caron. Please also remain courteous at all times to others who might be present and who are regulars at the facilities. We are taking over the arena for a number of days and invading the space of others. Your co-operation in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
