I desperatly need a boot that i can poot on a horses foot to protect it from concussion whilst not having a shoe. Does anyone have a small/medium easy boot, big mac boot, anything like that that i couold buy or even borrow. I know different brands have the left and right feet im needing one that would go on a right fore. But anything will do for now. Thanks in advance

Magic, if you don't come right looking for a boot and mostly want something to protect the hoof from a bit of bruising and from cracking on impact with the ground when you hand walking her .... I know a friend of mine made a "sort-of hoof boot" out of an old car tube. Basically you cut a piece of the tube then use heavy duty string to weave through the top of it to keep it on. She put a pastern wrap on when she used it to make sure there was no chafing.
Just an idea in the interim! Maybe your boyfriend could make something like this for you? I know you've said he is quite good at that sort of thing!

PS: you could use a couple of layers at the bottom for extra protection!

Magic if you cant get a boot go to the camping section of PnPay / Checkers or a camp shop and get one of the compressed foam mattress thingies (they are similar to neoprene like used for diving suits etc) and fashion a boot out of that then cover with a feedbag to protect - they (mattress) costs about R40 to R50 and you could get about 3 boots out of one with extra under pieces.
Hope you get what I mean as I know it works well - ask if you dont understand. How is she doing?

Thanks guys. HT i was poulticing previously but i have found out that it is a broken pedal bone so when i take her out for hand walks and when she is in her small paddock i want something there to cushion the foot from the wieght it has to bare. Also to protect the hoof from chipping. Misty thanks for the suggestion, unfortunatly i tried that and she just walks trhough them within a day, it was cheaper to put nappies on her foot.

ok so we need something strong for underneath protection of whatever you use. Why dont you go and chat to the guys at Woodheads leather in Cape Town near the Castle. They are super nice and very friendly and helpful and maybe they would let you have some offcuts of thick leather..... or have another idea. Find them in the yellow pages.

We had leather pads on and those lasted a bit longer but she also managed to get through them. Im thinking of maybe combining your idea and michys idea putting the rubber and the foam under her foot.
